Red Rocks, it’s about to go down!! Live broadcast at ustream.tv/johnmayer 8:45pm MT tonight.

I used to live in Evergreen, CO…which is relatively close to Red Rocks and I had the opportunity, (because of my Ryan Adams obsessed friend) to see Ryan Adams and Lucinda Williams play there.  It was great and I ended up becoming a big Lucinda Williams fan that night!  Wow.
I ended up checking with the bouncer to see if it would be alright to sit in the front row.  (This is back when I thought it was my charm and NOT my physical package and vaguely slutty attire that would get me and friends things we wanted) So, yeah…we sat in the very front….
I remember that Ryan Adams got in a shouting match with the guy I was standing next to.  The guy kept yelliing “Yeah Ryan, rock the fucking house, bro!”  “Tear this mother fucker up!”  “Blow our fucking minds, Ryan fucking Adams!!” at the top of his lungs like an old Chris Farley character.  I guess Ryan just couldn’t take it anymore and yelled back “Shut the fuck up and enjoy the show!  What the fuck is your problem?” I can’t remember Ryan’s exact words but they were along those lines.  I agreed with him cause the guy was acting like he was at an AC/DC concert or like Iron Maiden or something and was of that era also.  More importantly than words was the shear volume this guy was able to produce.  He. was. so. loud.  It was like, even though Ryan was aprox fifteen feet away from, he thought Ryan wasn’t getting his message to rock on and was really worried Ryan wouldn’t hear him.  Anyway, his girlfriend was super embarrassed after Ryan scolded them and I heard her tell him, “Let’s just go.”  He agreed and they left, seeming defeated.  It was weird, to say the least.  It gave me the same feeling as “Of Mice and Men” in that I’m sure that it was never his intention to do harm.  He just loved too hard!
Anyway, this is a great picture, but very few photos can capture the way the air is up in there.  It’s like peaceful souls are swirling around telling you that everything is going to be alright.  (I don’t do drugs.)  Speaking of swirling souls, when I was in NYC on 9/11/2002…  the wind was wild.  Clearly a haunting.
Anyway, another fun note, this picture was originally posted by John Mayer and back when I saw Ryan Adams at Red Rocks, I used to get the two of them mixed up!  I kept thinking, I can’t believe my super indie friend likes that pop guy because at the time she just pretty much knee-jerk hated ANYTHING on the radio…  It’s nice to not be in your twenties anymore, when you liked only things that fit in the box of how you define yourself.  (If you’re out of your twenties, please let this go…. especially the people that say, “I like everything but country” or “I like everything but rap.”
Anyway, if you ever get the chance, see a show at Red Rocks!  And if someone you really like is playing there, pay whatever.  It will be magical!
